2013 Chipotle Truck Farm Tour is Going Stong!

With 7 months under our belt, the Chipotle Truck Farm Tampa Tour is well on it’s way to reaching over 10,000 people (and kids included) this year.

Here are some highlights of what we have accomplished!

  • Partnerships with Hillsborough County Library System for free summer programs in 5 different libraries during their “Dig Into Reading” summer reading campaign.
  • Partnerships with the Pasco County School Systems PLACE Program to reach over 4,000 students that are enrolled in the after school programs all throughout Pasco County.
  • Partnerships with Whole Foods Markets in Tampa to visit during kids club events and talk about where real food comes from.
  • Partnerships with Tampa Bay Markets to visit one market each month and reach an audience who is interested in learning about the Truck Farm documentary and finding out about what Truck Farm is doing to inspire more people to start thinking out side the box about where their food comes from.
  • We have driven over 7,000 miles in Tampa Bay, talking and meeting thousands of people who like what we are doing and might just get to planting too!
  • We have been featured on BlogTalk Radio, Daytime TV, Studio 10 TV, WFLA NBC News and the Tampa Bay Times.

And much more is coming for the rest of 2013!  If you are a school, community center, organization, or just someone who would like to have talk about Truck Farm Tampa and what we have to offer, please contact us at TruckFarmTampa@gmail.com

We will keep on truckin’ through this fall in Tampa Bay!  Be sure to keep an eye on our calendar to see where we are headed next!  Might just be to your school or event!

Truck Farm Tampa on Daytime TV

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! Wait! It’s a Truck Farm? What? A garden in a truck? Yup! Truck Farm Tampa is back in action for 2013 because of Chipotle Mexican Grill and its 2013 sponsorship of the Tampa fleet.

Truck Farm was featured on Daytime TV on Jaunary 8, 2013. Thrilled to share our story with a national audience, we wanted to show how easy it really is to grow something in anything! We featured our “crazy garden” activity and our farm to table salsa (recipe from Chipotle Mexican Grill). “We were excited to announce our 2013 Chipotle Truck Farm Tampa Tour to the Tampa Bay area!” said Marisa Langford, owner of Truck Farm Tampa and founder of Fit Kids Playground. “We now have a block of free classes that we can offer to local schools and community events to demonstrate our mission, the simple fact that one can grow anything anywhere as long as you have sun, soil, water air!”

The 2013 Chipotle Truck Farm Tampa Tour was first featured in the Tampa Tribune’s ‘Business & Money’ section on Sunday, December 16, 2012.

If you are interested in more information on Truck Farm Tampa or Fit Kids Playground, please use the contact form to reach Marisa Langford.

Truckin’ AWESOME

We are so excited to launch TODAY at our first community screening!

Truck Farm Tampa will be shown off on June 21 at the Tampa Bay Market’s Flicks and Food Truck’s event from 6 – 10 p.m. at Grand Central at Kennedy Courtyard, 1120 E. Kennedy Blvd.

The community event includes a free screening of “Truck Farm,” a movie about how the mobile farming movement began in Brooklyn, N.Y. Founding partner of the Truck Farm Tampa Cultivate Tour, Chipotle Mexican Grill, will be on hand at the launch giving out chips and salsa and free t-shirts to the first 50 attendees.

Truck Farm Tampa is operated by Fit Kids Playground. Marisa Langford, founder of Fit Kids Playground, a health and wellness resource based in Tampa, discovered Truck Farm Chicago during the summer of 2011 and got the idea to bring it to Tampa.

“It was the coolest project I had seen to help teach kids about where healthy fruits and vegetables come from,” Langford said. “When kids see the film, then see our truck garden, we know it will spark lots of important conversations on our concept of eating a rainbow of fruits and vegetables each day.”

After the launch, Chipotle will sponsor the mobile garden’s tour throughout the Tampa Bay area to educate people about gardening and sustainable food initiatives. Through Chipotle’s Cultivate mission to make the world a better place by building relationships with farmers and community, Truck Farm Tampa will visit schools, community events, farmers markets and select Chipotle locations for events throughout the year.

“Chipotle and Truck Farm Tampa share a mission to improve our food supply and educate people about sustainability, so this is a natural partnership for both of us,” said Chipotle Marketing Strategist Kim Higgins. “This is exactly the kind of dynamic, forward-looking program that Chipotle’s Cultivate mission seeks to support, and we are happy to support this tour throughout the year.”

Truck Farm Chicago

We have a special connection with Truck Farm Chicago. It was where we first learned about the project and meet up with Tim and Sherri at the Taste of Lincon Ave back in 2010. They had an amazing truck and we couldn’t wait to bring it back to Tampa!
